Look a little closer
A textile pattern may have a specific place, maker, tradition or use recorded with it. Reducing that example to an exotic mood can erase the information that makes it meaningful. Begin with the object’s documentation and distinguish what it says from your own interpretation.
A note for your design book
Write a short source note identifying the collection record and the details it actually supports. Study structure, colour or scale without copying a distinctive protected design. If context is missing, say so. Your own design exercise should remain clearly your work, while descriptions of another culture should stay careful, attributed and open to correction.
