Look a little closer
A fibre is a constituent, yarn is a form used in many textile constructions, and fabric describes the resulting textile structure. A material name and a construction name therefore answer different questions. A short label may provide only part of this information.
A note for your design book
Create a three-field note for an everyday textile: declared fibre composition, visible or declared construction, and finish or decoration. Leave missing information blank rather than filling it from appearance. Museum textile records can demonstrate how these levels are described together. The exercise helps organise terminology without claiming that an untrained visual inspection can identify an unknown fibre.
